Cat Enrichment and Pawsitivity Training

Overview: Provide vital socialization and ensure that all cats get plenty of exercise while awaiting adoption

Prerequisite:
- Disease control webinar
- Cat stress-reduction & enrichment for shelter cats webinar

Job Duties:
- Provide proper socialization based on the cat's individual needs
- Exercise and play with cats for enrichment
- Make observations and document cat behavior
- Provide basic cat grooming
- Ensure that all cat kennels and cabanas remain clean (scooping litter, cleaning up spilled messes, etc)
- Clean and disinfect cat kennels after adoption and prepare space for a new cat

Days & Hours Needed: Cat Enrichment and Training Shifts are available on Saturdays and Sundays from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm.

Requirements: Communicate in a way that demonstrates and promotes collaboration, cooperation, problem solving, and interpersonal skills to foster a positive work environment, teamwork, and productivity. Other requirements are as follows:
  • Must follow the mission of the APF
  • Must attend New Volunteer Orientation
  • Must attend Animal Handling training
  • Knowledge of APF policies and protocols
  • Ability to represent the APF in a professional manner in all situations with the public, volunteers, and staff
  • Must be observant and communicate effectively
  • Knowledge of cleaning and disinfecting protocols
  • Must read animal documentation prior to interacting with animals
  • Ability to learn and quickly adapt to changes in programs and procedures
  • Organize, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks
  • Must be able to squat and bend, lift and reach, stand for up to 2 hours, and lift up to 20 lbs.
  • Able to withstand exposure to animal odors, diseases, possible contagious conditions, bites, scratches, animal waste, and moderate noise levels as well as cleaning chemicals
  • Working knowledge of cat behavior, breeds, diseases, and medical conditions is a plus
