Ramona Grasslands County Preserve - Invasive Non-Native Plant Removal at the Santa Maria Creek

Looking for a way to get outside this upcoming President's Day? Join us as we remove invasive, non-native plants from the Santa Maria Creek! 

Plant Removal Details:
This all-ages event is perfect for families, friends, and community groups. Under the guidance of our knowledgeable Park Rangers and Department of Parks and Recreation staff, you’ll learn proper plant removal techniques—no experience necessary! We will be removing invasive tamarisk from the creek.

Location/Date/Time:

  • Santa Maria Creek (park on the shoulder near the corner of Highland Valley Road and Rangeland Road in Ramona; look for the green-striped Park Ranger Truck!)
  • Monday, February 16th, 2026
  • 9:00 a.m.- 12:00 p.m.

Volunteer Details:

  • All ages welcome; children must be supervised by an adult.
  • Instruction and tools provided.
  • Inclement weather may cancel; Call the Ranger Office at 760-788-3326 with questions.

What to Bring:

  • Work gloves (some will be provided)
  • Hat & sunscreen
  • Water bottle & snacks
  • Long pants & sturdy, closed-toed shoes
