Leveraging SPOR Approach: Patient‑Oriented Innovation for the Medical Device Sector
Please join us for an upcoming AbSPORU Journal Club session featuring a presentation on how the medical device sector can learn from the strategy for patient-oriented research (SPOR) strengths. Drawing on findings from Lisa's Master’s thesis on strengthening Calgary’s healthcare innovation ecosystem, the talk will contrast how innovation is structured in the medical device sector—with its often siloed clusters of developers, SMEs, clinicians, and investors—against SPOR's integrated, patient‑centred approach.
The presentation will outline how patient‑oriented research principles can help the medical device sector move beyond silos and work more closely with clinicians, patients, and system partners. It will also explore how AbSPORU can serve as a facilitator of cross‑sector learning, helping to connect medical device innovation with broader health system priorities and patient‑centred outcomes.
All health researchers, clinicians, trainees, and patient‑oriented research stakeholders are welcome to attend and contribute to a discussion about how the SPOR approach can support a more connected, patient‑centred innovation ecosystem across sectors.
