Young Clinical Volunteer

We are seeking 16-24 year olds to join our In-Patient Unit for a six month programme, volunteering closely with nurses, healthcare assistants, doctors and other clinical professionals to support hospice patients.

Where:  St Wilfrid's Hospice, 1 Broadwater Way

 

When: A four hour shift once a week - for a six month period from October 2026 to April 2027

 

DBS: Enhanced with adult barring check required 

 

Closing date: Monday 12th June.  Please be aware that we may close application for this role early if we receive sufficient applications before the closing date, therefore if you are interested please consider submitting your application as early as possible.  Please note places on this programme are limited, unfortunately we will not be able to offer a place to all those who are invited to an interview.

About the role

Young Clinical Volunteers (YCVs) are based on the hospice Inpatient Unit (IPU)  and volunteer closely with patients, nurses, healthcare assistants, doctors and other clinical professionals becoming part of the IPU team whilst they are with us, there is also the opportunity for participants to shadow ward rounds and clinical procedures.  YCVs complete a workbook over the course of their programme which follows the 16 standards of the Care Certificate.  YCVs are supported throughout the programme by a mentor and the wider IPU team.

 

Please be aware that we have limited spaces on the programme and cannot accept everyone who applies.

Please be aware successful applicants are required to attend an Induction Day on Saturday 17th October 2026 and a Celebration Evening on 12th April 2027.  Attendance of the first 4 shifts is mandatory and YCVs must maintain at least a 80% attendance rate to remain on the programme.
