Volunteering and Recruitment

We are looking for Cafe Volunteers to support with the running of the café, offering a warm and friendly service to customers and visitors of the hospice. 

Location:  Inpatient Unit, St Wilfrid’s Hospice, 1 Broadwater Way

Suggested Time Commitment: One 4-hour shift per week.  

Tasks include:

• Communicating with customers
• Operating cash register, processing card payments, accepting cash payments and issuing change
• To support patients, their visitors or groups using the café, giving an empathetic approach where required, or engage in general conversation
• Assist in re-stocking the café
• Clear tables in the café to kitchen area in order that there is sufficient supply of crockery ready to use
• Clean and sanitise tables ensuring they are suitable for customer use
• Offer assistance to customers either with help carrying trays or getting customers their food items

You will need:

• This is a customer service role so communication skills and friendly positive attitude
• To be resilient and able to work in an environment that can at times, be emotionally challenging

Training and support:

• Full role specific training
• Organisational induction training including a Welcome Day at the hospice
• Ongoing support from Volunteer Manager and the Volunteer Engagement Team
