Sewing and Alterations Volunteer
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Sewing and Alterations Volunteer to alter and repair the uniforms of staff and volunteers who support our patients in the hospice. This will help us to reduce replacement uniform costs and enable more resources to be invested directly in patient care.

Location: Collections from St Wilfrid’s Hospice, 1 Broadwater Way
Suggested time commitment: Flexible depending on the needs of the hospice, up to a maximum of 4 hours per week.
Tasks include:
- Carrying out repairs and alterations to scrubs worn by healthcare professionals and volunteers who work directly with patients
- Adjusting garments such as shortening trousers, taking in waistlines, and ensuring a comfortable fit
- Repairing and re-hemming uniforms as required ensuring they maintain a professional appearance
- Repairing zips on fleeces and raincoats when required
You will need:
- Experience as a skilled dressmaker or seamstress
- Access to a sewing machine and relevant equipment
- The ability to work independently and manage your own time
- To comply with St Wilfrid’s Hospice policies and procedures
- The flexibility to work from home, with occasional travel to the hospice when needed
Training and support:
- Full role specific training
- Organisational induction training including an Information Session at the hospice
- Ongoing support from Peoples Team and the Volunteer Engagement Team
