38th Space Symposium (April 2023) - Entry Control Support - ZONE LEAD
Please note: This volunteer area will be a position that will work closely with the Entry Control Support Team Lead, Craig LaMotte, and the Broadmoor security team that partners with the Space Foundation for the entire symposium.
We want to ensure that you have certain skill sets (see below for those skill sets), as well as a good knowledge of the layout of the Broadmoor and are able to manage and communicate effectively with both your volunteer "team" and with the Entry Control Leads. You must stay focused and diligent to be a lead for the Entry Control Support volunteers in your area.
We will reach out to you if selected to be a team lead, schedule you as a team lead and ask that you do some pre-symposium review of information,we also would like for the Entry Control Support Zone leads to be able to do 2 shifts during the Mon-Thursday of Space Symposium. Jennifer Walters will be communicating some incentives with Team leads that will put in this extra time for symposium with us.
Duties as team leads will include, but are not limited to:
A Team Lead will be managing a team of 'Entry Control Support' Volunteers, and ensuring proper coverage for all entry areas of symposium. Also ensuring the entry control support volunteers know any details for the entry point they are supporting and checking credentials at or scanning badges.
Team Leads will be reporting any suspicious scenarios, people or activity, to Broadmoor security and our Space Foundation team. They will also ensure that sufficient breaks are given efficiently to the entry control support volunteers (and yourself). Lastly, Zone Leads will work with the command post leads to ensure all areas are covered and coordinate if gaps are happening to ensure proper coverage.
Required Skill Sets for Team Leads:
- Prior experience in security, emergency or safety very helpful
- Able to Multi-task, lead people and be friendly, yet authoritative
- Previous experience working Entry Control Area is highly recommended
- Physically able to urgently move on your feet around the symposium
Please NOTE: The shifts have a window built in at the beginning of each shift which allows for time for volunteers to arrive at the World Arena Parking area to park their car and then ride the Broadmoor shuttle over to the Symposium. Once at the Symposium, located at The Broadmoor hotel, volunteers for this area will report to Volunteer Check-In to receive their badge. They will then report to the Command Post right in the same area, to receive a briefing and the area they will be covering.
Please plan to arrive at the World Arena Parking area at the start time of your shift. We have given ample time to receive badge, receive a briefing and deploy to the area you will be covering.
