Kawempe Call

Fall 2010 – Global Partners in Care helped connect US hospices with hospices in low-resource settings.Samaritan realized it’s global mission of caring for our world by partnering with Kawempe Home Care (KHC) in Kampala, Uganda. Our sister hospice provides holistic care and supportive services for people living with HIV/AIDS, TB, cancer, and other life-limiting illnesses. The goal is to identify cases of HIV/Aids and TB as early as possible, and to educate their youth, to stop transmission.

Samaritan supports their mission to provide medical support to the most disadvantaged including vulnerable and orphaned children through education, resources, and direct support of one of their entrepreneurial program called Beads for Education.Education is not free – families must pay out of pocket, which is difficult as Kampala is one of the poorest areas.

Community members make jewelry from recycled paper, and other fabric goods that we help re-sell.100% of the proceeds go back to the crafters as income and to pay their children's tuition to school.

Opportunities are flexible and varied:

  • Sell bead jewelry and other sewn goods like safari animals, laptop bags, purses, pouches, and more to friends, family, and at community events.

  • Participate in monthly Zoom calls

  • Join a Committee: Children’s Services, Beads for Education, Community/Outreach, Grants/Fundraising

  • Spread the word

  • Sponsor a child’s education
