Program Description:
A program designed for residents and their families/friends to socialize while enjoying tea and homemade baking.
Goals:
- To provide opportunity for social interaction
- To provide opportunity to assess social skills
- To promote relationships between residents and family members
- To provide opportunity for stimulation
- To provide opportunity for reminiscing
Volunteer Job Description
Help, with the direction of the Recreation Staff, to -
- Arrange tables and set with any accessories the unit uses (napkins/flowers etc.). As you become more familiar with the unit, the recreation staff may wish you to initiate the set up.
- Make tea and coffee
- Bring out cups and saucers, creamers and sugar.
Help to gather Residents
- For the first few volunteer shifts, please follow the recreation staff to the residents’ rooms while the staff ask the residents out to tea; then you as the volunteer, can porter the resident to the tables while the staff continue to invite the residents.
- Please ask residents where they like to sit.
- Go back to get other residents.
Help to pour tea and coffee and hand out the baked goods
- Recreation staff will provide instruction as some residents have dietary restrictions.
- Help feed any residents who require assistance with eating.
Please spend time visiting and socializing with the residents. This is the main goal of the tea party.
