Saturday Bingo – Volunteer Job Description
Help with set up –
- Pick up bingo equipment from the recreation’s storage room and take to the auditorium (only if the recreation staff ask to do so).
- With the direction of the recreation staff, help to set up the bingo.
Help to Porter Residents
- Volunteers can start portering when doors open at 9:45 a.m. One staff will support volunteers in portering, and the other staff will stay in the auditorium to sign in residents as they come down. Please note that once residents start to come, make sure two people (either two staff or one staff and one volunteer) must be in the auditorium.
Volunteers are reminded to:
- Sign out the residents in the units.
- Make sure footrests are attached to the wheelchairs.
- Buckle up the residents before taking them down.
- Remind residents to hand sanitize and give them facemask, if not wearing one yet.
- The volunteer should ask residents where they would like to sit.
- The volunteer must go back to the unit to get other residents that have agreed to come.
- The volunteer can go and invite the residents to the bingo program independently when become familiar with the residents.
Assist with the playing of the game.
- The recreation staff will request the volunteer to assist those residents who cannot play their cards independently.
- The volunteer should only assist the residents but not to play the game for them.
- Give the resident cues and mark their cards only if they cannot do it on their own.
After the program:
- As the volunteers start in portering back the residents (right after the program at 11:30 a.m.) to the unit, staff must sign out residents with the volunteers’ name.
- Staff and volunteers must clean and sanitize bingo equipment.
Encourage and cheer for the residents!! It makes the game much more exciting.
