The Salvation Army - La Crosse

COVID-19 and The Salvation Army
There has been concerns on if The Salvation Army will be staying open with many schools and events being cancelled to avoid the spread of outbreak.  We are aware of the risks with the COVID-19 to our shelter and our leadership team met on Thursday morning to discuss our plan of action.  We are working closely with the La Crosse Health Department to figure out the best approach.
Currently, we are awaiting further instruction from our Territorial Headquarters if we'll be shut down due to the virus, but currently we are planning to remain open until official word is given.  However, your health is more important than your volunteer efforts to The Salvation Army.  Please do not feel obligated to still attend your volunteer services, as we want to make sure everyone is healthy.
If you don't feel comfortable volunteering while there is concern of the COVID-19 virus, PLEASE let me know as soon as possible, just so we can make sure our staff members are aware of what voids need to be filled with our programs, especially in our Food Pantry & Kitchen services.  Regardless if The Salvation Army shuts down, our Emergency Shelter will still be open.
Thank you for all that you do and please stay healthy! If you feel during this outbreak you are in need of help, please know we are here for you as well.  Please let us know if you need a meal, supplies, or if you have any questions please feel free to contact me by email at

Mission Statement

The Salvation Army, founded in 1865, is an international religious and charitable movement organized and operated on a quasi-military pattern and is a branch of the Christian Church. Its membership includes officers (clergy), soldiers / adherents (laity), members of varied activity groups and volunteers who serve as advisors, associates and committed participants in its service function.

The motivation of the organization is love of God and a practical concern for the needs of humanity. This is expressed by a spiritual ministry, the purposes of which are to preach the Gospel, disseminate Christian truths, supply basic human necessities, provide personal counseling and undertake the spiritual and moral regeneration and physical rehabilitation of all persons in need who come within its sphere of influence regardless of race, color, creed, sex or age.
