Purpose of the Role
Volunteer Ushers help create a safe, organized, and welcoming seating experience for patrons at the Freeman Arts Pavilion. Ushers assist with directing guests, managing crowd flow, and providing general venue information before, during, and after performances. Ushers are stationed throughout the seating lawn and play a key role in ensuring patrons can easily find their seats while maintaining clear pathways and a positive guest experience.
Essential Responsibilities
- Welcome patrons and assist with seating directions in a friendly and professional manner
- Direct patrons to appropriate seating areas based on tickets or wristbands
- Review tickets and apply wristbands when required
- Manage entrance points into seated areas throughout the performance
- Coordinating seating conflicts, issues, and seat changes with box office staff
- Maintain clear walkways and monitor crowd flow throughout the performance
- Assist with ingress and egress before, during, and after events
- Provide general venue information and answer patron questions
- Assist patrons with accessibility needs when requested, always asking permission before providing physical assistance
- Use radios, flags, or other tools to communicate with team members
- Identify and report safety concerns or tripping hazards to the Usher Lead or staff
- Use flashlights to illuminate pathways after dark

Qualifications
- Ability to stand for extended periods (up to 4 hours) in varying weather conditions and on concrete
- Ability to lift to 5 pounds
- Comfortable managing large groups of people
- Ability to follow instructions and adapt to changing seating configurations
- Ability to read in dim lighting and loud environment
