At RSPCA Qld, we offer a range of volunteer roles that put you right at the heart of animal care. From hands-on work with dogs, cats, and farmyard friends to helping behind the scenes, there’s something for everyone.

These roles are rewarding—but they’re not all cuddles! Keeping animals happy and healthy means plenty of cleaning and physical work. Rain or shine, weekday or public holiday, we need dedicated volunteers every single day.

Please note we are unable to provide work experience or offer any student placements (exceptions being placements organised through university or tertiary programs).

Animal Care & Shelter Support

Laundry and Donation Sorting Assistant | Wacol

Spin, Sort, and Support!

Please note, due to high demand for Animal Care, volunteers applying for this role & wishing to transfer to Animal Care are required to complete a minimum three-month commitment in Laundry & Donations before a transfer will be considered.

What to expect

If you are passionate about animals and animal welfare and looking for a unique and worthwhile way to contribute, this rewarding volunteer position could be for you.  

As a Volunteer Laundry and Donations Assistant, you are responsible for ensuring all areas of the shelter have clean linen, bedding, towels and anything else required to provide a clean and comfortable environment for our animals.  Whether it is an animal that has been subjected to abuse and cruelty, a stray or lost or recently surrendered animal, this role is truly pivotal to the effective operation of the shelter. Whilst this role is not the most exciting in comparison to some of the other roles available, it is essential.  In addition, part of this role also includes bringing appropriate items that have been donated from the donations area down to the laundry to be sorted and put neatly away so the stock is constantly replenished as damaged items are discarded.

What are the tasks?

🧦 Sorting all laundry items to be washed and loading the industrial washing machines
🗑️ Discarding heavily soiled, damaged or ripped items
👕 Hanging washed items on the lines to dry
🧺 Folding and putting away clean laundry ready for use
🛏️ Washing and drying ‘special’ items such as dog beds, toys, leads and collars
📦 Liaising with Op Shop sorting staff and transporting appropriate donated animal care items from the donations area to the laundry
🧸 Sorting and putting away donated items
 

What skills & characteristics do I need?

👥 Good teamwork

When can I volunteer?

📅 Monday to Sunday
🕢 7:00am – 12:00pm or 12:00pm – 4:30pm

What to expect

If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join our Supporter Experience (Fundraising) team and provide vital help to animals in need. Supporter Experience volunteers enjoy a variety of tasks, and the choice is yours; from administration and customer service to community fundraising and events. There is something for everyone!

What are the tasks?

☎️ Answering phone calls and responding to supporter enquiries ⌨️ Completing a variety of data entry tasks 📝 Update and cleanse supporter details on the CRM database

💌 Help with the fulfillment of fundraising packs

🙋 Assist with planning and administration for key fundraising events and campaigns

🎪 Assist with RSPCA QLD’s presence at events, engaging with supporters and assisting in event set up and pack down

💰 Arrange collection of donation boxes

 

What skills and characteristics do I need?

💕 Passionate about the RSPCA and animal welfare

🗣️ Excellent communication and customer service skills

🏅 Professionalism, confidentiality

😊 A confident, friendly and positive nature, making people feel welcome

🤍 Willingness to support people through delicate and sometimes challenging situations

✅ Reliable, with the ability to work independently, take initiative and multitask

💻 High-level computer skills, including experience with Excel and data entry

🐾 Willingness to learn

🔞 Be over 18 years of age

✅ For tasks that require driving an RSPCA vehicle, applicants must hold a current manual driver's license, have sound driving ability, be confident in heavy traffic and all-weather conditions, and be physically fit (able to lift 10kg).

 

When can I volunteer?

We have the following available shifts on the roster to choose from;

📅Mondays (weekly) : 10am – 2pm, 1pm – 4pm

📅Tuesdays (weekly) : 1pm – 4pm

📅Thursdays (fortnightly) : 1pm – 4pm

⏳ We request a minimum commitment of 1 x shift per week for a minimum of 3 months. The only exception is Thursdays where we require a fortnightly commitment.

Full orientation and training is provided.

What to expect

🌞 A rewarding volunteer role suited to people who enjoy giving back to their local community and spending time outdoors
🛠️ A varied role with tasks ranging from general maintenance around the centre to grounds work such as mowing, whipper snipping and watering to keep the grounds looking their best

Warehouse Assistant Picker and Packer | Wacol

Stack up Impact - Join Our Warehouse Crew!

In this volunteer role, you will assist with our online ordering process by carefully picking and packing the products that our customers have ordered. Your attention to detail will ensure that each order is correct and carefully packed, helping us maintain our high standards of service.
This role involves working in a supportive and friendly environment, where you’ll collaborate with a team of passionate individuals who are dedicated to making a positive impact on animals' lives. While you’ll be on your feet for some of the time and lifting and carrying items of varying weights, you’ll receive the support you need to feel comfortable in the role.

 

Key Responsibilities:

🛒 Pick and pack products for online orders
✅ Ensure accuracy and care when packing orders
📦 Mark off incoming stock and put stock away as well as other ad hoc warehouse tasks 
🦺 Maintain safety standards within a warehouse environment
❤️ Contribute to the overall success of RSPCA Queensland’s mission

Shifts Available:

📅 Thursday or Friday
🕘 8:00am – 12:00pm

What are the tasks?

🥗 Preparing meals and providing enrichment activities for animals in care

🧪 Maintaining strict hygiene control by following sanitisation protocols and procedures
🏥 Supporting a clean, tidy and welcoming clinic and reception environment
🧺 Assisting with laundry duties including washing, folding and returning clean bedding and towels
📦 Assisting with stock control and ensuring essential supplies are available


Skills and characteristics needed:

🐾 Confidence working with native wildlife, or a strong willingness to learn in a rehabilitation setting

When can I volunteer?

We offer a range of shifts from Monday to Sunday. Our current roles we need to fill urgently are:

  • Dawn Shift (6:30am – 10:30am) Fridays and Saturdays
  • Morning Shift (8:30am – 12:30pm) Mondays and Thursdays
  • Midday Shift (10:00am – 2:00pm) Saturdays and Sundays
  • Afternoon Shift (1:30pm – 5:30pm) Thursdays and Sundays

Wildlife Reception | Eumundi

Start Their Rescue Story at the Front Desk!

Passionate about Australian wildlife and love meeting new people? Join us as a Wildlife Reception Volunteer and play a vital role in helping animals in need. You’ll greet visitors, assist wildlife carers, manage critical data, and support the day-to-day operations of our busy hospital. 

Please note: You’ll be the first point of contact for injured or deceased wildlife, so resilience and professionalism are essential.
