National Trust Branches

The National Trust's Branch network in Victoria covers metropolitan Melbourne, regional and rural Victoria. Branches facilitate the participation of local National Trust members in heritage advocacy work in their local area.

There are many opportunities open to members through engaging with your local Branch. These include: 

  • Participating in events including the National Trust annual Australian Heritage Festival 
  • Partnering with local government in National Trust Heritage Award schemes 
  • Organising diverse activities for local members 
  • Working with National Trust staff to influence local Councils to protect heritage places via their planning schemes 
  • Assisting in maintaining the National Trust heritage places database by updating information about local places 
  • Coordinating activities with a broad and diverse range of partners, including local historical groups, local government, and other not-for-profit groups 

Each Branch is unique in the opportunities and activities it provides.

Heritage Festival Bendigo Event Support Volunteers

 

Volunteer for the National Trust Heritage Festival in Bendigo!

Are you passionate about history, heritage, and storytelling? Join us as a National Trust Festival Volunteer and help bring our vibrant events to life!  The National Trust of Australia (Victoria) Bendigo Branch is seeking Volunteers to assist in supporting our events. 

Volunteer Roles Available:

Tour Guides – Lead engaging tours at some of the Festival’s key heritage sites:

  • Gas Works
  • Former Law Courts
  • Cemetery Chapel
  • Open House and gardens - Miners’ Cottages

Event Support – Assist at the National Trust Branch marquee, providing visitor information and support at:

  • The Post Office/Law Courts
  • Gas Works

Flexible Volunteering – Choose Your Commitment!

✅ Volunteers can be National Trust members or non-members
✅ Choose how much time you can commit—from 1 hour to 20 hours over the Festival
✅ No need to volunteer on consecutive days—select specific events and times that suit you

No prior experience is required—just enthusiasm and a willingness to engage with visitors! Training and support will be provided.

Join your Local NTAV Branch Committee

Are you passionate about heritage and looking to connect with like-minded individuals in your community? By joining your local National Trust branch, you’ll have the opportunity to advocate for local heritage, participate in events, and contribute to meaningful conservation efforts. Whether you’re interested in campaigning for heritage protection, helping at events, or simply sharing your love of history, your involvement makes a real difference. Become part of a dedicated group working to safeguard our shared heritage—your voice and support matter! 

Volunteer activities could include: 

  • Attend regular meetings, under the direction of the local NTAV Branch representative
  • Work co-operatively with other volunteers to advocate for local heritage issues.   
  • Provide support for local Heritage events 

Knowledge and Skills desired but not mandatory :  

  • Interest in Heritage & Conservation – A passion for protecting and celebrating local history, architecture, and cultural sites.

  • Willingness to Engage – Openness to participating in branch activities, advocacy efforts, and community events.

  • Basic Understanding of NTAV’s Mission – Familiarity with the National Trust’s role in heritage conservation and its impact on local communities.

  • Teamwork & Collaboration – Ability to work with like-minded individuals to support local heritage initiatives and branch projects.

Volunteers nominating for a BRANCH COMMITTEE Executive are required to have a current Working with Children’s Card (free for volunteers) and a Police Check. Instructions on how to obtain these are given the registration process.
