Benefits of Volunteering

Volunteering isn’t just about making a difference in the community—it’s about enriching your own life. You’ll gain valuable skills, expand your professional network, and build meaningful connections along the way. Whether you’re a retiree passionate about history or gardening, a student seeking hands-on experience, or a heritage enthusiast eager to give back, we’ll help you find a rewarding role that suits you.

Becoming a volunteer also fosters personal growth, enhances mental well-being, and provides a sense of purpose and belonging. You’ll enjoy new social and cultural experiences, develop confidence, and contribute to a cause you care deeply about—all in a welcoming and inclusive environment.

We warmly invite you to join our diverse and vibrant team of volunteers. People from all backgrounds are welcome, and we encourage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to apply. Together, let’s bring Victoria’s heritage to life!

About the National Trust of Australia (Victoria)

Since 1956 the National Trust of Australia (Victoria) (NTAV) has been actively conserving and protecting our heritage for future generations to enjoy. We are an independent non-profit charity organisation and the leading operator of house museums and heritage properties in the state.

Since our inception we have been generously supported by Volunteers whose contributions are highly valued and allow us to continue our important work.

You can read more about NTAV and our people here.

As a community based member organisation, we are not part of government and work with partners to deliver our mission to champion Victoria's diverse heritage, embracing the complexity of the past, and inspire connections to place for the benefit of current and future generations.

What is Volunteering?

Volunteering is time willingly given for the common good and without financial gain

By becoming a volunteer for the National Trust of Australia (Victoria) (NTAV) you play a part in caring for our collective Heritage. The organisation depends on the efforts of teams of volunteers who work with us in partnership. Volunteers are essential to the important work the NTAV does in protecting, preserving and sharing Victoria’s heritage.
