Community Arts Assistant

Join our talented instructors at various locations as we celebrate with some sunshine and artmaking! Assist an artist with a block printing project or a community art project and help to greet the public with information about our programs and the gallery.
Duties include set-up and cleanup for hands-on arts programs for participants of all ages, assisting instructor and participants with art projects, and should be comfortable interacting with children, seniors and/or adults.

Burnaby Blues + Roots Festival
Saturday August 8th at Deer Lake

Set against the scenic backdrop of Deer Lake Park, the 2024 Burnaby Blues + Roots Festival is an unforgettable celebration of music, community and culture. This year's eclectic lineup includes legendary American singer and human rights activist Mavis Staples, Southwest-flavored indie rock band Calexico, and more.
This event is FREE and will feature multiple performances plus a kids’ activity area, an artisan market, and food trucks. New this year: no fences or entrance gates!

Since 2000, the festival lawn of Deer Lake Park in Burnaby has played host to a wide array of professional blues and roots artists originating from around the world. In 2024 the Festival will expand to encompass a wider range of genres.

Friday Oct 30 at Burnaby Central Park, 6:00to 8:00pm (fireworks at 7:30)

The City of Burnaby celebrates Halloween and fall traditions with CENTRAL SPARK -- a fireworks-centered event at Central Park focused on family fun.
Featuring spooky art installations/photo ops, roving entertainers, a costumed dance party, food trucks, and a grand drone show and fireworks finale. Costumes are encouraged!

Bonsor Pool Swim Lessons
Bonsor Pool is a community pool that serves residents of the Metrotown area in Burnaby. It shares the same building as Bonsor Recreation Complex and is conveniently located to both Metrotown Skytrain Station and Metrotown. We offer a wide range of swimming lessons from preschool to adult, and have a particular focus on programming for diverse populations that live in the area.
Eileen Dailly Pool Swim Lessons
Eileen Dailly is a community pool that serves residents of the Northwest region in Burnaby. It is across from the Confederation Seniors Centre and is adjacent to Confederation Park. We offer a wide range of swimming lessons from preschool to adult, and have a particular focus on preschool aged children.
Fred Randall Pool Swim Lessons
Fred Randall Pool is a community pool that serves residents of the Edmonds area in Burnaby. It sits within the Edmonds Community Centre. We offer a wide range of swimming lessons from preschool to adult, and have a particular focus on diversified programs.
Special Events
Special events are a great way to contribute and interact with like-minded individuals who enjoy aquatics. We have a wide variety of themed events at all locations throughout the year. By selecting this as your interest, you will be notified of all special event opportunities within our indoor and outdoor aquatic facilities. This includes: CG Brown Pool, Bonsor Pool, Fred Randall Pool, Eileen Dailly Pool, and our four outdoor pools.

Computer Club
Are you tech-savvy and enjoy helping others? Join our Open Computer Club and support community members in learning how to use their portable devices, including smartphones, iPad, laptops and more. We're looking for volunteers who can assist seniors with building confidence with technology in a friendly, supportive environment.
Bus Hostess
We're seeking enthusiastic Bus Trip hosts and hostesses to bring joy and assist the Bus Driver on our popular senior's day trips! A successful background check is required for this rewarding role.
Special Events
Help provide support with events. Day-of coordination, including, decorating, arranging place settings, and assisting with food and dessert service to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for guests.

Shop by Phone Phoner

Shop by Phone Phoner volunteers contact their assigned senior client(s) on a weekly basis to take their grocery order over the phone. The grocery order form is then emailed to Citizen Support Services and the volunteer shoppers take it from there.
Shop by Phone Shopper

Shop by Phone Shopper volunteers will shop the grocery orders for senior client(s) at Save On Food located on the corner Kingsway and Willingdon, on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 9-11:30am.
Volunteer Visitor

Volunteer Visitors provide a friendly visit once a week to a Burnaby senior, who is isolated or simply would like to make a social connection in person. Volunteer visits are typically 1-2 hours and can be in the senior client’s home or out in the community.
Shopping Buddy

As a volunteer Shopping Buddy you will meet up with a senior client and accompany them in Metrotown or Lougheed Mall on Thursdays, from 10:30am to 1:00pm. All senior clients take HandyDart to and from the malls.
Phone Buddy

Phone Buddy volunteers provide a friendly phone call to isolated seniors in Burnaby that are in need of companionship, support and a friend over the phone. Phone Buddy volunteers typically call 1-2 times per week for 1-2 hours per phone call.
Gadabouts Driver

As a volunteer Gadabouts Driver you will pick up a senior client from their home and bring them to and from a local Burnaby Community/Recreation Centre, where our bus outing will begin and conclude. This takes place once a month on a Thursday (drivers are reimbursed for their mileage).
Lunch Program Driver

As a volunteer Lunch Program Driver you will pick up a senior client from their home and drive them to and from a local Burnaby Community/Recreation Centre. The lunch program runs on Thursdays between 10:30-1:00 pm (drivers are reimbursed for their mileage).
Social Event Assistant
As a volunteer Social Event Assistant you will greet, socialize, and assist assigned senior client(s) during social outings/events. This volunteer position is for the Lunch Program and/or the Gadabouts outings, as well as seasonal Citizen Support Services special events.
Wellness Caller (Extreme Heat)

As a Wellness Caller, you would perform check-in calls with Burnaby seniors, in the event of an Extreme Heat Response alert being issued.

Enthusiastic student volunteers assist participants with their devices. Volunteers will assist seniors, helping them navigate cell phones, tablets, I-pads while teaching them shortcuts and other ways to make access to technology less intimidating.

Join our 55+ Bus Trips as the Bus Driver! You will be responsible for operating a 24 passenger bus and driving to destinations (mostly day trips) around the Lower Mainland and sometimes Vancouver Island/Sunshine Coast, or other nearby islands.
You must have a class 4 (unrestricted) or 1 or 2.
Leadership/Administration
Serve on the Seniors Society Board of Directors (directors are elected) or on a Committee of the Society (appointed or elected).
