Community Initiatives - Dog Daycare Attendant

From May Long Weekend through Labour Day, the BC SPCA Salt Spring Island attends the Saturday Market in Centennial Park by putting on a doggy daycare service.

With dogs not being permitted in the market area, the BC SPCA provides a fenced-in area where volunteers and leashed dogs interact and play together.

A dog handler is someone who is experienced and comfortable handling a leashed dog that has been pre-screened and logged in (similar to a coat-check service) by a senior volunteer or staff member. Dogs are given one-on-one attention. We try not to intake more dogs than volunteers, however, we do offer dogs who are familiar with crating a chance to be crated (until a volunteer becomes available).

BC SPCA - Wild ARC - Metchosin

Applications for Spring 2026 are now open!

Wild ARC Logo

Wild ARC is a Wild Animal Rehabilitation Centre operated by the BC Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and is located in Metchosin, about 40 minutes outside of Victoria.

Our mission is to provide humane care to injured, orphaned, sick and distressed wildlife based on established rehabilitation standards and the animal's natural history.

Wild ARC is the only wildlife rehabilitation centre on southern Vancouver Island and treats between 2,000 and 3,000 wild animals annually from over 140 different species.

Wild ARC also aims to educate the public about wildlife, animal welfare, and coexisting with nature, as over 80% of the wild animals treated at Wild ARC are impacted by human activity. We are a non-profit wildlife rehabilitation centre, and we do not receive core government funding.

We really appreciate your interest and support in caring for our local wild animals in distress!

Please fill in an application to join our volunteer team and you too can help save the lives of wild animals!
