Our volunteers reflect on their experiences . . .
I want to thank you for your endless support, understanding, and flexibility. I greatly enjoyed working with the children and staff at APH. I learned so much about this population and their needs, and know that this experience helped me stand out as an internship applicant. It has been a real pleasure working with you! Kimberly – C/A Activity Assistant
I did get accepted to medical school and will be attending the Medical College of Wisconsin in the fall! Thank you both for providing me with some wonderful volunteering opportunities at APH. I really enjoyed my time there and am looking forward to exploring the mental health field more during medical school. Tory - Patient Floor Assistant

Our Great Volunteer Opportunities
Patient Facing/Patient Care Areas

We have volunteer roles focused on supporting the inpatients and our care teams. Our goal is to ensure every inpatient has the support they need during their stay and an excellent patient experience. Volunteers interact with patients and use active listening skills to check in on their needs and provide emotional support. Our volunteers may also assist with support through activity items, managing our Compassion Closet of clothing donations and offering fresh baked cookies to lift spirits.
Pet/Animal Assisted Therapy

Our four-legged friends and their volunteer handlers bring joy and reduce anxiety for patients, visitors and teammates through our animal assisted therapy program. Dogs and at some sites, miniature horses, must be certified for animal assisted (pet) therapy and visit throughout our hospitals. They are beloved by all!
Musical Talent Opportunities

Our volunteer musicians visit patients within common gathering spaces on our nursing units to play music that provides comfort and a soothing escape from isolation. Musicians typically play instruments such as keyboards, stringed instruments and others musical instruments. Their talent is a gift to all -- our patients, teammates and visitors!
Office Support/Administrative

Volunteers do amazing work behind the scenes to help many departments with special projects such as creating patient education folders, helping staff phones, or assisting with computer projects. We'll help you find the right project work that interests you!
Patient Enrichment Volunteers

This role provides emotional support and comfort to our patients by interacting with them during recreational sessions. Volunteers will warmly welcome patients into sessions with games, arts, and other activities such as Hope notes, where patients create a positive note that will be placed in a discharge bag for a future patient. The volunteer may develop and coordinate the activity session and/or assist hospital employees. Volunteers and patients both share that this is an extremely rewarding role!
Advocate and Aurora Health Virtual Volunteer
Virtual volunteers can work remote from home while still providing meaningful support for our patients through a variety of programs. The Concierge Admission Program supports newly admitted patients with a phone call from a virtual volunteer to discuss their stay, identify any needs they may have while with us and assist with concerns. Volunteers call patients from home to any one of our hospitals. Virtual volunteers can also serve as remote witnesses for patients who need an advance directive for care and assist with hospitalized patients during elections to provide guidance on how they can vote using a proxy. Many more virtual experiences are being developed thanks to our wonderful virtual volunteers!
