Once your application is submitted, you will also have the opportunity to enable accessibility features within your MyImpact profile.  Your volunteer leader will provide additional information on that process.

Applying to Volunteer

  1. Please click on the location in which you would like to serve by choosing from the list to the left. Start by scrolling through the list for your state and then choose from the locations most convenient for you.
  2. Read through the types of volunteer opportunities offered at that location.
  3. Complete the application by clicking on any of the “Fill in an application” links on the page.
  4. You will be asked what type of volunteer role interests you. Don't worry, there is no commitment to that role. We just want to get an idea of what you like and how you want to serve. We'll figure out the best role for you during the placement interview.

Hospice Opportunities: Volunteer hospice opportunities are also listed under "Locations" and state the area they serve. 

Remote or Virtual Opportunities:

  • Advocate Health Virtual Volunteer program is available for volunteers across the continental United States.
  • Illinois Narrative Medicine is available for remote work for Illinois residents.

Locations that require volunteers to be 18:

Aurora Psychiatric Hospital, Wauwatosa, WI

After Applying

Prior to the first day of volunteering, you may be asked to complete some or all the below based on the location and type of volunteer role you choose:

All volunteer candidates:

  • Complete online volunteer training.

Volunteer candidates 19 years old and older:

  • Consent to a criminal background check (applies to anyone 19 years old and older)

Volunteer candidates in roles located within a hospital or clinic:

  • Complete a free-of-charge medical screening which includes.
    • A blood draw to check for TB (Tuberculosis) exposure. 
    • ** Wake Forest Baptist sites do not provide a medical screening.  Your WFB volunteer leader will provide more information.
  • Provide proof or agree to receive the following vaccinations:
    • 2 doses of MMR (Measles, Mumps, and Rubella) vaccine
    • 2 doses of Varicella vaccine. Only required in NC, SC, GA, and AL.
      • Many locations will provide titers and necessary boosters free of charge for these vaccines.
    • Influenza (flu) vaccine – applies during flu season (usually October through March). 
  • If you have a medical or religious reason for not receiving certain vaccines, you will have the option to submit an exemption form for review.
  • We will share with you detailed instructions and guide you through the health screening process once you are accepted into the program.
