Kansas City Hospice and Palliative Care Volunteer Opportunities

Vigil - End of Life Compassionate Presence

Volunteers are needed to sit with people at end of life, when no friends are family are available, or when friends/family would appreciate some additional presence for support. Volunteers, once trained, will be placed on an all-call paging system, so when a need arises, volunteers will be notified. If they can help, they respond to the call.

Onboarding Requirements

At this time our volunteer orientation for most roles is through a self-paced, all-digital format.

Volunteer interviews may be conducted virtually or in person, but there will be an opportunity to visit and get to know your volunteer coordinator during the onboarding process.

Onboarding Requirements:

-Virtual volunteer training (approximately 12 hours of self-guided volunteer training)

-KC Hospice volunteer onboarding powerpoint (1 hr)

-TB skin test (provided by KC Hospice at Meritas Health)

-Series of background checks

-Drivers Licence

-Auto Insurance

-Additional KCH&PC paperwork (i.e. volunteer agreement)

-Interview with a volunteer coordinator

-Job-specific training as needed

If you have any questions about any of the information above, please contact Melissa Basgall, Manager of Volunteer Services, at mbasgall@kchospice.org.  Otherwise, please complete the application and the volunteer coordinator associated with the volunteer job opening will be in touch shortly with next steps.
