Chess Club Leader
A Chess Club Game Leader volunteer creates a welcoming environment, teaches basics, and organizes games for participants, typically children, teens, or adults.
Availability: Tuesdays, 3:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. (Availability includes before and after chess club to setup/cleanup).
*A 6-month continuous commitment is required.
Responsibilities:
- Lead a chess club, track game time maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for all.
- Set up/takedown chessboards and pieces, pair players if needed, and play friendly matches with participants who need opponents.
- Assist players with skill development.
Qualifications:
- Chess Knowledge: Understanding of chess rules, tactics, and openings.
- Enthusiasm for working with children, teens, and adults.
- Ability to communicate courteously and effectively.
- Patient, dependable, reliable, and encourage good sportsmanship in chess games.
Qualifications:
- 16+ years of age
- Background check & Mandated Reporter Training required for age 18+ volunteers
- Reference checks
