Information System technology can be defined as the study, design, implementation, support, or management of computer-based information systems. This internship is intended to prepare students for their first job in information systems, which is normally as a systems analyst. In this job, you will study problems, design solutions, and implement those solutions using information technology.

General Schedule/Hours per week: Require a minimum 12 hours per week in the office Monday thru Friday face-to-face during school May 2025 through April 2026. Options to work during school breaks (in between semesters/quarters). Will need approval from Intern Supervisor.

Internship Requirements: To apply, submit the completed online application, your resume, a letter of interest, to include area of interest, and transcripts. Our internship is an unpaid position and will require a minimum of 12 hours per week in the office face-to-face. Shifts are open from Monday through Friday. Interns will assist current SDPD Information Services Analysts (Police IT).
Learning Goals:
Goal 1 - Each intern will be given at least one specific project that involves analytical thinking tasks.
Goal 2 - Gain work experience at the city with a minimum number of hours per week in an office environment.
Goal 3 – Develop and present a project to showcase a short-term project that you completed.
Goal 4 - Complete at least one City job application online for a job of interest, along with appropriate resume, cover letter, and references.
Goal 5 - Connect with at least one new mentor at the city who is doing a job that has interest for you.
** Interested Candidates must be currently enrolled in an academic program. Preferred interns will be enrolled in or completed an Information Systems based program. Applicants will have to undergo a background and polygraph examination in order to work in the Information Technology Unit. **

Tasks may include a wide range of responsibilities, which can include:
- • Learn how to use and assist in Mobile device management.
• Assist in Technology equipment management.
• Opportunity to analyze data and to recommend improvements to existing systems or processes.
• Assist and learn how to set up new computers, networks, and software for new employees in an office environment.
• Learn how to use different Remote Technologies.
• Learn how to collect, analyze, and store data for use in reports.
• Assist in supporting the maintenance of existing computer systems, including how to troubleshoot problems with hardware and software.
• Learn and assist with computer network security by scanning for vulnerabilities and viruses.
