Cat Foster: Mother & Nursing Young

The Foster Parent's role is to be supportive by providing a calm, safe, nurturing environment. Instinct tells mom cats to keep their kittens safe, and in order to feel safe, they need privacy, quiet, and minimal activity. You provide the mom cat the type of environment where she can feel comfortable raising her young which can range from 2-10 weeks, depending on the age of the kittens.

Requirements

  • Meet the general requirements of a Foster Parent outlined on the website.
  • Complete required online mandatory and feline training modules.
  • Kitten-proof your home to reduce potential safety hazards and provide a separate room away from household pets.
  • Maintain a peaceful, loving environment for the feline family.
  • Maintain communications with a Mentor and/or Foster Team.
  • Commit to the entire foster period with the feline family.
  • Try to spend a minimum of two hours per day with mom & kittens once old enough to socialize with them and monitor their health.
