Pre-Entry Support Intern (Unpaid)
Purpose: Educational and professional development purposes
Hours: At least 4 hours a week
Supervisor: Volunteer Coordinator and Program Coordinator
Typical Duties:
- Facilitate curriculum sessions - Assist with evidence-based classes for incarcerated individuals (life skills, CBT, reentry readiness).
- Support session prep - Help lead facilitators with materials, setup, and participant engagement.
- Maintain learning environment - Contribute to a structured, respectful, trauma informed space.
- Track attendance - Record participation and support basic documentation and reporting.
- Engage participants - Lead discussions and activities that build accountability, decision making, and goal setting.
- Collaborate with staff - Work with team to ensure program fidelity and alignment with goals.
- Observe case management - Learn reentry coordination and case management practices
- Follow safety protocols - Adhere to all jail safety, security, and confidentiality requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- Current college student in Criminal Justice, Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, or a related field.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Interest in criminal justice reform, rehabilitation, and reentry services.
- Ability to maintain professionalism and boundaries in a correctional environment.
- Reliable, organized, and able to follow structured protocols.
Minimum Requirements:
- Must be 18 years or older
- Must complete a volunteer application and attend volunteer orientation
- Must sign and agree to a confidentiality policy, liability waiver, and photo release consent form
- Must pass a background check and jail clearance process.
- Completion of any required training prior to facility access.
- Must comply with all facility rules, dress codes, and security procedures.
