           Pre-Entry Support Intern (Unpaid) 

 

 

Purpose:             Educational and professional development purposes 

Hours                 At least hours a week 

Supervisor       Volunteer Coordinator and Program Coordinator 

 

Typical Duties: 

  • Facilitate curriculum sessions - Assist with evidence-based classes for incarcerated individuals (life skills, CBT, reentry readiness).
  • Support session prep - Help lead facilitators with materials, setup, and participant engagement.
  • Maintain learning environment - Contribute to a structured, respectful, trauma informed space.
  • Track attendance - Record participation and support basic documentation and reporting.
  • Engage participants - Lead discussions and activities that build accountability, decision making, and goal setting.
  • Collaborate with staff - Work with team to ensure program fidelity and alignment with goals.
  • Observe case management - Learn reentry coordination and case management practices
  • Follow safety protocols - Adhere to all jail safety, security, and confidentiality requirements 

 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Current college student in Criminal Justice, Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, or a related field.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Interest in criminal justice reform, rehabilitation, and reentry services.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and boundaries in a correctional environment.
  • Reliable, organized, and able to follow structured protocols. 

 

Minimum Requirements: 

  • Must be 18 years or older 
  • Must complete a volunteer application and attend volunteer orientation
  • Must sign and agree to a confidentiality policyliability waiver, and photo release consent form
  • Must pass a background check and jail clearance process.
  • Completion of any required training prior to facility access.
  • Must comply with all facility rules, dress codes, and security procedures.
