Pathways to Opportunity Program
Are you interested in supporting young people from a migrant or refugee background? Do you have at least 3 yrs work experience in Australia?
CMY is currently recruiting Mentors for the Pathways to Opportunity Program in the inner North and Western suburbs! We need committed & reliable volunteers to support young people through 12 months of 1:1 support while they create a resume, apply for jobs, and start work.
CMY recognises the need to provide additional support to young people (16-24 years) from a refugee or migrant background.
The Pathways to Opportunity Program provides a new approach to assisting young people through education options, creating networks and invaluable workplace experience. Delivered in partnership with AFL Sports Ready in the inner north and western suburbs of Melbourne, we need reliable and dedicated volunteer mentors over a 12 month period.
What are the time commitments and volunteering activities?
- 12 month commitment
- Mock Interview Panel participation
- Through regular phone and monthly face-to-face contact, provide 1:1 mentoring to young people as they apply, prepare and undertake work placement/experience or start work.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for people:
- who can commit for 12 months and can reliably attend meetings and catch ups with their mentee
- with at least 3 years work experience and a good understanding about job seeking requirements and employment norms
- are interested in supporting young people from a migrant or refugee background;
- can be a positive and engaging role model for young people seeking career development;
- with excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
- who have the ability to work autonomously, can be self-reflective and respond to feedback and directions from CMY staff.
