Community Friend Volunteer - Music Group
We are pleased to advise that the Melbourne City Mission Community Friend Program (CFP) is recruiting Volunteers to facilitate a Music Group for 2022 in Melbourne’s North (Coburg). CFP supports adult participants (18-64 years old), who are living with a mild disability or mental health issue.
The music group will have around 6 participants living with a mild to moderate disability and/or mental health issue. This includes physical, intellectual, psychiatric, sensory disability, acquired brain injury, and mental health.
A studio space will be available for use. Music instruments and equipment will be supplied for use in the group. Instruments include, guitars, keyboards, microphones, drum kit, Tabla drums etc.
CFP are in the stages of confirming final details for the Music Group. We are hoping this group will meet up every fortnight. At present, we are gauging availability to decide if this will be on a weekend or during the week.
We do not specifically require musicians to volunteer with the group However, it would be beneficial if a guitarist was interested in volunteering.. If you have a love for music, hold enthusiasm for participant engagement and a general care to promote participant growth and expression – this is the role for you..!
We do not require specific qualifications. The qualities we look for in volunteers are:
• A commitment to the Community Friend Program and the participants (of at least 12 months)
• Maturity and reliability
• Effective communications and social skills
• The ability to be a good role model
• The ability to focus on the needs of others
• The ability to seek advice as appropriate
• An understanding of the importance of social connections and friendship
Benefits include:
* Continual support from CFP coordinators via phone, email and in person
* Training through programs or specific requirements
* Invitations Mid-year and end of year gatherings
