Albury Volunteer Branch - Community Aged Care & Short-Term Foster Carers
For many elderly people, their pet is their closest companion. When health challenges make it hard to provide care, the thought of losing that bond can be devastating. Our Community Aged Care volunteers make sure that doesn't have to happen.
This is one of the most meaningful volunteer roles we offer — and right now, we need more people in Albury to make it happen.
What you'll be doing
- Dog walking for elderly clients in your local community
- Feeding and caring for pets in the owner's home while they are in hospital
- Administering medication to animals as required
- Transporting pets to and from vet clinics and groomers
- Complying with Work Health and Safety guidelines and RSPCA NSW policies and procedures
There is also the opportunity to open your home to short-term foster care if an owner needs to remain in hospital for more than three days. This is optional, requires an additional induction with RSPCA NSW, and all supplies and support are provided.
This role is ideal for those who understand that keeping pets and their families together is at the heart of everything we do at RSPCA NSW.
A note on how this role works
All home visits and dog walking are done in pairs — so why not bring someone with you? A friend, family member, neighbor or colleague. It's a meaningful thing to do together, and the more people who sign up, the more elderly pet owners in Albury we can support.
What we're looking for
- At least 18 years of age
- Access to reliable transport
- Able to lift up to 10kg
- Able to work as part of a team and follow direction
- Enjoy interacting with both people and animals
- Willing to undergo a National Criminal History Check (cost covered by RSPCA NSW)
- A secure home environment (foster care volunteers only)
Time commitment
This is an as-needed role — availability will depend on client requirements and your own schedule.
