Reception Volunteer

We are looking for volunteers who will provide a great first experience of the hospice and leave a lasting impression on all those that come visit. 

What will I be doing?
At the hospice we have two reception areas, one on the Day Service Unit and one on the In-Patient Unit. As a reception volunteer you will deliver the best possible experience to all patients, visitors, contractors and callers to the hospice at all times. In the role you will provide a warm and welcoming environment and respond to callers in a professional manner, leaving people with a positive and lasting impression of the hospice. As part of the volunteer role, you will do a variety of tasks which can include:
- Meeting and greeting, patients, visitors and contractors to the hospice
- Answering telephone calls and transferring them to appropriate people
- Receive post and parcels and ensure they get to the right people
- Accept monetary and other donations 
- Use the till and card machine for people buying snacks or merchandise

How often will I be volunteering?
Our Day Service Unit is open Monday - Friday and our volunteer shifts are from 8.30am - 1pm and 1pm - 4.45pm. 

Our In-Patient Unit reception is open Monday - Sunday and our volunteer shifts are from 8.30am - 1pm, 1pm - 5pm and 5pm - 8pm. 

We may have opportunities where you can volunteer weekly on a certain day and time or on ad-hoc basis, where you can cover shifts that we need support with. 

What Support will I get?
As a Reception volunteer you will receive an in-depth volunteer onboarding and induction process. You will be required to shadow both receptions before you start a shift to ensure you feel comfortable on the reception areas. You will receive ongoing training from the volunteer team as well as yearly supervision.

Other things to note:
We are committed to the wellbeing of our volunteers. If you have recently experienced a bereavement, we kindly ask you to wait two years before volunteering with us within this role. Whilst we appreciate that everyone's  bereavement journey is individual, we have a duty of care to both our volunteers and our service users, therefore, we are unable to progress any application that falls into this category at this time.

Due to the nature of this role and the hospice environment, please note that we can only accept applications for this role if you are 18 years or older. Thank you for your understanding. 

You will be required to have a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
