Volunteer Driver

We are looking for friendly volunteers who can transport patients to and from the hospice to support them in attending the services the hospice offers.
 
What will I be doing?
As one of our volunteer drivers volunteers you will be driving patients and carers, collecting them from their home to the hospice for various sessions such as clinics, Day Service Unit sessions, Carer's groups, complimentary therapy and more. Please note you will be required to use your own vehicle for transportation and require business insurance. During your role you will: 
- Engage in conversation with who you are driving
- Plan your journey to and from the hospice
- Ensure your vehicle is safe to travel before picking up people and comply with annual checks where required
- Ensure safety of the people you are driving e.g. contacting the hospice if the person is unwell on the journey or changes in mobility
- Ensure that you are fit to drive at all times and inform of any changes in circumstance
- Uphold the reputation of the hospice by adhering to speed limits and not using mobile phones whilst driving etc
 
This role is more than a car journey and gives people the opportunity to get out of their homes and access the services that the hospice provides. 
 
What Skills do I need?
- A competent, safe driver with a full UK driving licence and a with use of your own car
- Business insurance
- Friendly and welcoming
- Good communication skills
- Reliable and punctual
- Patient, non-judgmental and emotional resilience

How often will I be volunteering?
This role varies with how often you will be driving and is dependent on the people that are coming along to the hospice. The role could vary from driving weekly, to monthly or ad-hoc. 

What Support will I get?
As a volunteer driver you will receive an in-depth volunteer onboarding and induction process. You will receive ongoing support and training from the volunteer team. 
You can also claim mileage back for your driving as well.

Other things to note:
We are committed to the wellbeing of our volunteers. If you have recently experienced a bereavement, we kindly ask you to wait two years before volunteering with us within this role. Whilst we appreciate that everyone's  bereavement journey is individual, we have a duty of care to both our volunteers and our service users, therefore, we are unable to progress any application that falls into this category at this time.

Due to the nature of this role and the hospice environment, please note that we can only accept applications for this role if you are 18 years or older. Thank you for your understanding. 

You will be required to have a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
