Facilities Maintenance,  Join our team of as a Facilities Maintenance volunteer with the BC SPCA! In this hands-on  role, you'll support the care and upkeep of our buildings, furniture, equipment and more. From  minor repairs and safety checks to organizing storage spaces and assisting with seasonal tasks,  you'll help ensure our facilities remain safe, functional, and welcoming for animals, staff, and  visitors.  Responsibilities  Support general facility upkeep, including light repairs and touch-ups under staff direction.  Keep track of maintenance schedule.  Assist with assembling, repairing, or tightening kennel panels, gates, and enclosure hardware.  Help maintain and repair furniture such as desks, chairs, shelving, and storage units.  • Clean and maintain washers, dryers, and other basic appliances (lint traps, filters, exterior surfaces).  Replace simple hardware such as screws, bolts, hooks, knobs, or chair wheels.  Perform minor painting, patching, or wall-repair tasks as approved by staff.  Replace batteries in smoke detectors, clocks, and other low-risk devices.  Move or set up furniture, crates, or materials for programs, events, or operational needs.  Communicate promptly with BC SPCA staff if any concerns or issues arise, such as equipment  malfunctions or potential safety hazards.  Follow Centre's processes for volunteers checking in/out and ensuring your volunteer hours are logged.  Requirements & Training  • Philosophical harmony with our mission, vision, values and strategic directions.  • Age requirement of 16+ years of age: Youth 16-18 years must have their guardian complete the consent  form in the application to be able to volunteer independently.  • Strong organizational skills, including keeping tools, supplies, and work areas tidy and well-maintained.  • Previous experience/training with basic maintenance, repairs, or facility upkeep an asset.  • Ability to follow safety procedures and take direction from staff.  • Comfortable using hand tools and small power tools safely.  • Ability to identify potential hazards and notify staff.  • Strong problem-solving skills and confidence assessing simple repair needs  • Must be comfortable working around animals and navigating spaces where animals are present.  • Completion of BC SPCA provided online training must be completed prior to starting to volunteer.  Volunteering Conditions  • Physical Activity: This role involves a high level of physical activity, including tasks such as shoveling  snow, lifting bags of sand or ice melt, moving bags of dirt, lawn clippings, and other hands-on outdoor  work. Volunteers may be required to lift and move items such as tools, furniture, kennel panels, or  equipment (within safe and reasonable limits)  • Safety Protocols: Volunteers are expected to follow all safety procedures, including the safe use of tools  and equipment, proper lifting techniques, wearing appropriate protective gear, and reporting any hazards  or concerns to staff.  • Potential Hazards: Volunteers should remain aware of potential risks associated with using and handling  equipment and tools.  Time Commitment  • Approximately 1 hour of online training is required for entry into the volunteer program.  • Attendance to an in-centre orientation and/or tour may be required before starting to volunteer.  • Depending upon location and time of year, a minimum of 1 hour per week can be expected.  • A minimum commitment of 3 months is requested.  Benefits of Volunteering  • Enjoy flexible, hands-on work that keeps you active and engaged.  • Build relationships with staff and volunteers who share your passion for animal welfare.  • Develop or strengthen practical skills, from tool use to problem-solving and facility upkeep.  • Contribute to a positive environment where your independence, initiative, and reliability are valued.  • Opportunities to attend BC SPCA events, training and more.  Questions?
