BCSPCA  Licensed Veterinarian Volunteer An opportunity to further your expertise and gain hands-on experience by shadowing our  veterinary team, learning new techniques, or honing your veterinary skills in specific areas.  Responsibilities  • Participate in observational learning experiences, which may include shadowing veterinary professionals,  observing specific procedures, or acquiring new skills.  • Engage in the designated learning activities, seeking guidance and insights from our veterinary staff.  • Focus on developing or enhancing specific technical skills, procedures, or techniques as per the program's  objectives.  • Ensure strict adherence to clinic protocols, safety guidelines, and ethical standards during all activities.  Maintain accurate records and documentation of the learning experience and any procedures performed.  Requirements & Training: Must be at least 19+ years of age.  • Hold a valid CVBC license as a veterinarian.  • Relevant experience & qualifications related to the program's focus/ technique/ area of interest.  Effective communication & interpersonal skills.  • Ability to adapt to clinic's workflow.  Maintain privacy & confidentiality.  • 1 hour of online training plus on-site orientation and on-shift training.  • Philosophical harmony with the BC SPCA's mission, vision, values, and strategic directions.  Volunteering Conditions:  • Indoor Settings: Volunteers will work indoors in animal care areas, offices, and medical facilities.  • Lifting and Moving: This role may involve standing, walking, bending, kneeling, moving and restraining  small animals. Volunteers may need to lift or move animals, supplies and equipment. *Speak to us about  modifications needed.  • Safety Protocols: Volunteers must adhere to safety protocols to protect themselves and the animals. This  includes using personal protective equipment (PPE) where necessary.  • Potential Hazards: Be aware of potential hazards from being in an environment. around animals such as  bites, scratches, or exposure to zoonotic diseases. Training will cover how to minimize these risks.  Time Commitment:  • The duration of the program can vary based on the specific learning objectives and requirements, ranging  from short-term shadowing experiences to more extended periods for skill development.  7-8 hour shifts during the vet hospital/clinic's operating hours, schedule to be negotiated.
