Role Purpose

St Giles Hospice offers emotional, physical and practical support for our patients, and those important to them. Whether it’s helping with pain relief, supporting a loved one or just being there to listen, we understand that sometimes it’s the little things that can make the biggest difference.

It costs over £9 million to deliver the care we provide each year and there is a growing need for our services. Only a third of our costs are provided by the NHS so we rely on the generosity of our community and funds raised in our retail stores to help us deliver our care.

Our online retail team play an important role in helping us raise the funds we need to support the hospice.  As an eBay volunteer, you’ll be responsible for picking, packing, photography and sending items from online to our customers.

What will I be doing?

  • You will be working with our retail team to maximise the funds we can raise through the sale of valuable and interesting items donated to us.
  • Researching items to maximise knowledge and value before they are sold online.
  • Preparing and cleaning items prior to photograph.
  • Select and pack sold items ready for dispatch.
  • Using your online sales knowledge to find ideas to develop our online sales offer and improve the online shopping experience for customers.

What’s in it for me?

As one of our valued volunteers, we will offer you:

  • Experience and developing skills in online retail and customer service
  • Build your confidence and develop transferable skills.
  • An induction and settling in period.
  • All support and training as necessary to ensure you are happy and confident in your role
  • Add your volunteering activity to your CV and get a reference.
  • The opportunity to make a difference to the lives of people at the hospice.
  • Any out-of-pocket travel expenses.
  • Lots of appreciation for your amazing contribution.
  • Improved wellbeing and feeling good about helping others.

What do I need?

  • A knowledge of eBay selling would be helpful, and an interest in packing parcels neatly would also an advantage.
  • A good eye for presentation
  • A picture is worth 1,000 words so ensuring that attractive, clear photographs are taken to boost eBay sales.
  • Good overall organisation skills.
  • Adaptability to the role’s requirements.
