Role Purpose

Many of us find talking about dying difficult because we’re afraid of saying the wrong thing, but here at St Giles we believe that talking about death can be incredibly positive.

Our Bereavement Help Points are informal, volunteer led groups, providing a cup of tea and a safe space for our community to talk about grief and loss with others in a similar situation. Our Bereavement Help Points also provide information and signposting to other support services available in the local community.

What will I be doing?

In this role, volunteers will help us to provide an informal, safe and supportive environment for bereaved people to meet in their community and talk about their experiences and feelings with others.

Tasks will include

  • Assist with setting up the room and packing away the Bereavement Help Point, helping to layout the room and display leaflets and information.
  • To meet and greet attendees when they arrive
  • To facilitate conversations within the group and to support people to share their lived experiences.
  • To work closely with the other volunteers within the group, and to recognise if another volunteer requires additional support.
  • To provide information and signposting to other services when required.
  • To maintain attendance records and collect data relating to the help point
  • To report any issues or incidents relating to the group to the Family and Community Support Worker or Family Support Service Lead immediately.
