Role Purpose

St Giles Hospice offers emotional, physical and practical support for our patients, and those important to them. Whether it’s helping with pain relief, supporting a loved one or just being there to listen, we understand that sometimes it’s the little things that can make the biggest difference.

 

Our dedicated out-patient clinics provide out-patient appointments for our lymphoedema service, medical consultants, community clinical nurse specialists and our family support and bereavement team.

 

Volunteers in the outpatient's team will support the day to day running of the out-patient clinics and help us provide a professional service.

What will I be doing?

  • Be a friendly, reassuring and welcoming face to patients, their families and visitors.
  • Give direction to patient and visitors attending outpatient appointments.
  • To be responsible for answering the telephone and taking messages as appropriate, booking appointments using the electronic patient record system and all other aspects of reception duties.
  • Ensure the practitioners and clinical teams are advised when a patient or visitor arrives for an outpatient appointment.
  • Ensure the practitioners and clinical teams are advised of any cancellations in a timely manner.
  • Provide an effective handover between shifts.
  • Assist the practitioners and clinicians in tasks as may reasonably be required.
  • To sign-post patients and visitors to other departments/reception as appropriate.
  • Ensure the out-patient reception area is clean at all times and to liaise with housekeeping as appropriate.

  •     This role is subject to a Basic DBS check
