Role Purpose

St Giles Hospice offers emotional, physical and practical support for our patients, and those important to them. Whether it’s helping with pain relief, supporting a loved one or just being there to listen, we understand that sometimes it’s the little things that can make the biggest difference

 

St Giles understands the importance of a relaxed and comforting environment for our patients, and one of its uniqueness's is the landscape garden visible from patient rooms or surrounding our therapy centre in Sutton Coldfield.

 

Patients who are receiving pain management services or complimentary therapy all benefit from the calm and beautiful surroundings on offer.

 

Our gardens provide sanctuary for many using the hospice services and the gardening team helps to preserve its beauty to keep it presentable.

What will I be doing?

Our gardens and grounds are expansive, with a variety of regular and seasonal activities.

 

Tasks will include

  • Sweeping leaves
  • Weeding
  • Pruning
  • Planting a variety of different plants
  • Hedge trimming
  • Lawn Mowing
  • Other general gardening duties

What do I need? 

  • Prior experience in horticulture or gardening – a keen home gardener or someone with working experience would be ideal.
  • Comfortable clothing appropriate for gardening duties, as well as suitable for a hospice environment. Gardening equipment will be provided.
  • Knowledge of using gardening machinery.
  • Some activities require a level of physical fitness
  • Good organisational skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
  • Be able to communicate clearly and effectively
  •     Someone who is creative/resourceful
  •     Someone who has good listening skills
  •     This role is subject to a Basic DBS check
