Role Purpose

St Giles Hospice offers emotional, physical and practical support for our patients, and those important to them. Whether it’s helping with pain relief, supporting a loved one or just being there to listen, we understand that sometimes it’s the little things that can make the biggest difference

As the first point of contact for visitors to the hospice, this role is key to providing a warm, professional, courteous welcome for all who attend our main site at Whittington. Our reception team strive to provide an environment which is: Welcoming, sympathetic, friendly, caring, efficient, clean & tidy.

What will I be doing?

• Greet visitors upon arrival, advise them of the sign in process, liaise with our in-patient unit and other departments and direct them accordingly.
• Ensure all incoming calls to the main switchboard are answered in a professional and timely manner, announce and transfer calls as appropriate
• Responsible for all till transactions in the reception area. This includes sale of food and beverages, merchandise and sale of lottery tickets working in accordance with Hospice procedures.
• Accept donations brought into the Hospice and ensure that these are recorded with the use of Gift Aid where appropriate.
• Receipt of deliveries/parcels and record.
• Direct visitors to the memorial room/quiet room and other areas of the Hospice where required.
• Keep up to date with procedures by reading the communications folder on each shift.
• Responsible for weekend/evening opening and closing procedures where applicable. 
• Any other duties, as required which are appropriate to the role.

What do I need? 

•     Excellent telephone manner/good communication skills.

• Ability to communicate effectively with distressed patients/relatives in a sensitive manner.
• Experience within a reception environment.
• Able to work appropriately with confidential and sensitive information.
• Experience of working as part of a team and follow guidelines.
• Able to work calmly and professionally under pressure.
• Awareness of cultural and religious needs of visitors and colleagues.
• Good organisational skills
• Emotional resilience and self-awareness, empathetic and patient

•     This role is subject to a Standard DBS check
