Social Prescribing - Tea & Talk Volunteer Driver

PROGRAM NAME:           Social Prescribing Program (SPP) TEA & TALK PROGRAM

 

POSITION TITLE:               Volunteer Driver

                                       

SCHEDULE:                         9:30am – 10:30am | 11:30am – 12:30pm

                                             1st and 3rd Wednesday or Thursday, until the end of June. 

                                             Program dates: April 2nd, April 22nd, May 6th, May 21st, June 4th

                                             and June 17th. 

                                             Starting in July, the program will run every 1st & 3rd Thursday of the month.

 

LOCATION:                         to and from 2420 Montrose Avenue

                                            

REPORTS TO:                     Seniors Community Connector(s)

 

COMMITMENT:                Minimum 6 months: 2 hours per shift

ABOUT THE ROLE

SPP Tea & Talk program is an approach to promote social activity and well-being of socially isolated seniors in our community. Volunteers play a key role in creating a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive environment for seniors participating in the program. Volunteer drivers help with giving rides to participants to get to the event and back home, by providing safe and friendly transportation, fostering social connection, and encouraging participation.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Drive participants between 9:30 AM-10:30 AM from their home to Tea & Talk event, and/ or 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM from Tea & Talk event to their home
  • Providing only a level of assistance you are comfortable with to seniors with varying abilities
  • Driving responsibly, obeying all traffic and seat belt laws
  • Reporting any incidents and emergencies immediately to Seniors Community Connector(s)
  • Keeping accurate records and submitting required documents/materials to Program Coordinator/ Community Connector(s) 

IDEAL VOLUNTEER

  • Friendly, patient, and respectful demeanor
  • Comfortable interacting with seniors from diverse backgrounds
  • Reliable and punctual 

REQUIREMENTS

  • Criminal Record Check (CRC)
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License
  • Clean Driver’s Abstract
  • Valid Basic First Aid Certification

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Comfortable with driving 2 – 3 seniors in a car
  • Comfortable assisting with folding and unfolding wheelchairs/walkers

Qualifications Required

  • First Aid Certificate Must be First Aid Certificate
