Social Prescribing - Tea & Talk Volunteer

PROGRAM NAME:           Social Prescribing Program (SPP) TEA & TALK PROGRAM

 

POSITION TITLE:               Program Support Volunteer

                                       

SCHEDULE:                         9:30am – 12:30pm

                                             1st and 3rd Wednesday or Thursday, until the end of June. 

                                             Program dates: April 2nd, April 22nd, May 6th, May 21st, June 4th

                                             and June 17th. 

                                             Starting in July, the program will run every 1st & 3rd Thursday of the month.

 

LOCATION:                        2420 Montrose Avenue, Abbotsford BC

                                            

REPORTS TO:                     Seniors Community Connector(s)

 

COMMITMENT:               Minimum 6 months: 2 hours per shift

POSITION SUMMARY

SPP Tea & Talk program is an approach to promote social activity and well-being of socially isolated seniors in our community. Volunteers play a key role in creating a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive environment for seniors participating in the program. Program support volunteers help with event setup, cleanup, engaging in conversations with the seniors, fostering social connection and encouraging participation.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Set up and take down tables, chairs, cups, and supplies for each event
  • Prepare and serve coffee, tea, and dessert to seniors
  • Greet and engage with seniors in a friendly and respectful manner
  • Clear plates and cups after the event
  • Wash dishes and tidy the space afterward
  • Support staff with any additional needs during the event

IDEAL VOLUNTEER 

  • Friendly, patient, and a good listener
  • Comfortable engaging with seniors from diverse backgrounds 
  • Reliable and punctual 
  • Previous experience with older adults is a plus, but not required 

REQUIREMENTS

  • Criminal Record Check (CRC)

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Closed-toe shoes must be worn
  • Loose clothing that may interfere with setup/cleanup task should be avoided
