PROGRAM NAME:           CareShare – Seniors Caregivers Support Program

 

POSITION TITLE:               CareShare Support Volunteer     

                                       

LOCATION:                        2420 Montrose Avenue

 

COMMITMENT:               3 hours per shift, minimum six months                  

                                            

REPORTS TO:                     CareShare Facilitator

POSITION SUMMARY

The CareShare – Senior Caregivers Support Program is for Seniors 55+ taking care of other adults such as parents, partners, and siblings. Volunteers play a key role in helping create a welcoming, inclusive, and dementia informed environment for seniors participating in the program. Program support volunteers help with event set up, cleanup, and engage with the participants in conversations, and other engagement activities to promote social connection while their caregiver is engaged in their own activities.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist with moving tables, chairs, and equipment before and after sessions, and support general room setup and upkeep
  • Assist with room reset, clean-up, and maintaining an organized environment throughout the session
  • Support attendance tracking and basic program documentation as required
  • Engage with participants in a respectful and friendly manner to promote social connection
  • Assist with facilitating group activities and engagement sessions under staff guidance
  • Provide general supervision to support participant comfort and well-being
  • Support staff with tasks to ensure smooth delivery of respite programming
  • Provide additional support to staff as needed to ensure the smooth delivery of CareShare Session

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Certification:

  • Cleared Criminal Record Check
  • Class 5 Driver’s License (for transportation roles)
  • Clean Driver’s Abstract (for transportation roles)
  • 18 years old or older
  • Completion of a volunteer interview as provided by the Facilitator and maintain any appropriate training necessary for this position

Experience:

  • Previous experience with older adults/vulnerable populations is an asset
  • Standard or Emergency First Aid certification an asset
  • FoodSafe certification an asset but not required

Knowledge and Skill Set

  • Reliable and punctual
  • Good communication skills (additional languages an asset)
  • Friendly, patient, with good listening skills
  • Comfortable engaging with older adults from diverse backgrounds
  • Follow confidentiality guidelines as outlined in interview and by the agency

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Closed toed shoes must be worn
  • Loose clothing that may interfere during setup/clean up tasks should be avoided
  • Able to lift to 25 lbs (12kg)
  • Engaging with older adults that may be at different cognitive levels
