POSITION TITLE: Volunteer Grocery Shopper for Seniors
SCHEDULE: Shopping is offered Monday to Friday between the hours of
8:30a.m. – 4:30p.m.
LOCATION: Abbotsford Grocer
REPORTS TO: Program Coordinator
POSITION SUMMARY
Volunteer grocery shoppers will provide grocery shopping and delivery services to seniors. Volunteers will call the assigned senior to take their list of items over the phone, shop at the designated store location then deliver the groceries to the senior’s home.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Volunteers will call the assigned senior and take their list of 20-25 items over the phone.
- Volunteers will then shop at the designated store and deliver groceries to the senior’s home.
- Volunteers are asked to carry a cell phone while out shopping and to take picture of the receipt and send to the program Coordinator who will arrange for payment.
- Volunteers keep track of the hours designated to the trip and are asked to report any concerns regarding the senior.
- Volunteers play an important role in identifying any concerns or issues regarding the health and well-being of a senior.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Certification:
- Volunteer grocery shoppers will need to have a criminal records check completed.
- Volunteer shoppers will have a valid driver’s license to perform the tasks in a timely manner.
- Completion of a volunteer interview as provided by the Coordinator.
Experience:
- Working with seniors and/or vulnerable populations is an asset.
Knowledge and Skill Set
- Knowledge of cell phone use and sending pictures is helpful but not necessary.
- Follow confidentiality guidelines as outlined in interview and by the agency
- Ability to read labels, store signage and physically able to conduct grocery shop from beginning to end.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Interaction with store staff as needed to ensure correct grocery items are located.
- To follow in-store policies and to communicate with others in a professional, and polite manner.
