Old Melbourne Gaol - OMG School Holiday Program Information session
The Holiday Program Support Volunteer plays a vital role in creating engaging, educational, and memorable experiences for families and children visiting the Old Melbourne Gaol during school holiday periods. By assisting with craft activities, storytelling sessions, and interactive programs, volunteers help bring Victoria’s rich history of justice, crime, and social change to life. This role supports the delivery of high-quality visitor experiences that inspire curiosity, foster learning, and make the Gaol a must-visit destination for the community.
Location & Department Old Melbourne Gaol – Education and Public Programs
Reports To Erin Jamieson, Education Coordinator
Hours and Days Required Minimum: Twice per month
School Holidays: Weekly sessions, 11:00 AM – 3:00 PM (one day per week)

- On-site support from supervisors, customer service staff, tour guides, and actors

Induction and training on activity facilitationIncludes a one-hour session with property staff , plus additional time to explore the site.
Volunteer Duties and Key Responsibilities
- Rove through the cells featuring the installation, answering visitor questions
- Take a Lunch break of at least 30 minutes
- Set up, pack up, and facilitate a craft activity on the third floor
- Provide general visitor information (e.g., directions to shop and toilets)
Skills, Qualifications or Experience Required

Mandatory: Working With Children Check (WWCC) and current police check
- Comfortable working with children and families
- Ability to instruct children in craft activities and communicate clearly with families

Friendly and approachable demeanor
Note: This role requires walking up and down several flights of stairs.
