Summer Programs Event Assistant Volunteers support City of Surrey Parks staff at a variety of summer programs and community events across the city, including Park Play programs and Community Picnics. This role is a great opportunity to get outdoors, support fun and welcoming events, and connect with community members of all ages throughout the summer.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Create a welcoming, inclusive, and respectful environment when engaging with the public
  • Assist with event set-up and take-down
  • Support Park Play programs by helping facilitate games and activities
  • Assist at event welcome tables by greeting attendees and answering general questions
  • Conduct simple surveys and support community engagement activities
  • Help keep event areas clean by picking up litter during and after events
  • Uphold safety procedures and follow staff direction at all times

Requirements

  • Ages 16+
  • Enjoy working outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Friendly, energetic, and enthusiastic
  • Ability to take initiative and follow direction as required
  • Ability to interact with the public in a professional and welcoming manner

Time Commitment

  • Accepted volunteers must participate in a training session in June
  • A minimum of 6 two-hour shifts to be completed throughout the summer (June–August)

Step #1 - Eligibility Requirements 

To apply to be a volunteer in the Summer Programs Event Assistant program, you must be:

  • 16 years or older
  • Eligible to volunteer in Canada (check your travel documents, if applicable)

  • Complete a Police Information Check
Step #3 - Volunteer

Park Partnerships will be hosting training and orientations for this opportunity in June! Volunteer shifts will be Monday- Friday at various times including many evening opportunities!
