Alzheimer Society - Huron Perth

Occasional Event Volunteers provide support in a variety of ways during Society events and are integral to event success. These events help raise awareness of dementia in the community, all the while raising funds that enable the Society to expand our services and support persons living with dementia and their care partners.

IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer's 

The Volunteer provides a vital service by giving office support to the Alzheimer Society Huron Perth staff. 

Requirements/ Tasks:

• Answering the telephone and relaying the caller to the appropriate staff extension, or taking a message
• Greeting community members at the door and referring them to the appropriate staff person
• Placing check-in phone calls to our clients on behalf of the Alzheimer Society
• Entering basic information into the computer

The IHR volunteer will assist the person with Alzheimer’s disease or other dementias (ADOD) and their families by providing companionship and socialization for the individual. This is seen by delivering client-specific recreation interventions to stimulate the cognitive, social, physical, emotional, vocational, and spiritual domains.

Time Commitment:

• 1-2 hours a week (Virtual – 1 hour; In-person – 2 hours)
• 6-month minimum time commitment

• Creative in adapting to the needs of the person with dementia
• Caring, compassionate and patient
• Good active listening and communication skills
• Ability to work independently
• Ability to accept direction and to ask for help when needed
• Reliable and dependable
• Sensitive and non-judgmental

Task/requirements: 

As a Minds in Motion volunteer, you will assist the Social Rec staff. Volunteer will assist clients during the 1 hour physical component of the program. The MIM volunteer will also help facilitate the 1 hour Social component of the program by engaging in conversation and provide companionship.

Time Commitment: 

1/week for 2 hours. 

Multiple locations; HURON; Clinton, Goderich, Wingham, Dashwood 

PERTH: Stratford, St. Mary's, Listowel

The Volunteer has an important role to fill for the Alzheimer Society Huron Perth fundraising program.

Task/Requirements:

• You are the liaison between to the Society and your community
• Helps to promote the event by distributing posters (to local businesses, offices, the public library, and so on)

 Community Ambassador must have a good knowledge of their community and possess a genuine interest in providing referral information to those who may ask for assistance.  The volunteer will be asked to be in touch with the office on a regular basis.   Access to transportation would be helpful.
