Emily's Backyard (EBY) at ACCC *NEW*
We are excited to launch a new program at ACCC offering a welcoming and supportive space for children visiting the cancer centre. This role is ideal for volunteers who enjoy working with children and want to make a meaningful difference in their hospital experience.
Volunteers will engage with children of all ages in a play‑based setting, providing one‑on‑one attention and encouraging age‑appropriate activities. This may include interacting with babies, toddlers, and older children, as well as assisting with snack time.
Key Responsibilities:
- Interact with children through cooperative play and activities
- Support children who may be feeling anxious or have concerns about a loved one
- Assist with snack time and provide one‑on‑one attention to children who need extra care
- Be aware of developmental stages and adapt activities accordingly
Qualifications:
- Genuine interest and enthusiasm in working with children
- Willingness to learn the basics of child development
- Strong communication skills and ability to address children’s concerns
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Must be able to bend to interact and play with babies and toddlers
Time Commitment:
- Start Date: October 13, 2026 (tentative)
- This is an ongoing volunteer placement.
- Volunteers must be able to commit to a regular weekly schedule.
- Volunteers will be part of the EBY ratio and are expected to be reliable and present for scheduled shifts.
- Shift times are 9am to 12pm, 10am to 1pm, 1pm to 4pm (no flexibility).
- Shifts are only available during weekday.
