Shelf Monitoring

Shelf- monitoring involves:

Picking a section of the library and doing the following:

-check each book or items' bar code to ensure it belongs to our library
-flip through the book and remove any notes/lists/garbage
-check for damage and loose pages
-ensure the spine label is legible
-return the item to its location, carefully reviewing the spine label from top to bottom to confirm proper placement [ie, mystery, fiction, Paperback SF, Junior, YA,new, etc.]
-check for accuracy of  the dewey decimal  and alphabetical notations. [See Shelving Manual]
-after completing each row, arrange the shelf neatly leaving a hands' width of space at the end of the shelf
-display items on empty display stands closest to its proper location
-complete a record of which sections you have completed

You will be trained on what to do if there are issues, including completing mending forms, checking if items in the wrong place are considered missing, getting new spine labels etc.

This position may be done on your own schedule.
