Circulation Desk

Description

The main responsibilities of the Circulation Desk Volunteer are, under the direction of the Shift Supervisor and the Librarian, to check in materials and to assist patrons with finding and checking out the materials they choose.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Communicate with the staff and public in a courteous and competent matter,

  • Perform circulation duties such as the checking in and checking out of library materials, the placing of holds, the renewing of materials, etc.,

  • Assist patrons with their various technical, reference and library service and procedural requests,

  • Maintain and update patron records,

  • Maintain competence and familiarity with, and following all library procedures, including emergency and safety procedures,

  • Maintain competence with all aspects of the circulation software,

  • Assist with collection maintenance including weeding, discarding, book sales, etc. and directing collection items to appropriate departments such as mending or cataloguing,

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Shift Supervisor, Librarian or other supervisory staff member,

  • Take all reasonable measures to safeguard the confidential information of library patrons.

  • Ensure workstations for automatic check-in/check-out features are operational;

  • Manage customary protocols for patron registration, bill records and fine collection.
