Volunteers play a crucial role at the MaST Center Aquarium. Projects throughout the facility are made possible because of their dedication and support. Volunteers help enhance the local community through education and environmental awareness, while working to accomplish our goals of research, education and general improvement of the Puget Sound.

Information about Volunteering
- Volunteers DO NOT need experience to join any of our teams.
- Individuals must be 10+ years old to participate. Volunteers 10-13 years old must have a guardian volunteer with them.
- ALL prospective volunteers must submit an application and attend a New Volunteer Orientation before starting.
- All training will be offered at the MaST Center Aquarium.

General Interests
Discovery Days

Help teach the public about the marine animals in our aquarium and answer questions about our specimen collection. Volunteer shifts are Saturdays 9:30am-2:30pm.
Life Support

Learn how to take care of our 250+ species in the aquarium. Help the Life Support Team clean tanks and feed the animals. Volunteer shifts are Monday and Wednesday 4-5pm and 5pm-7pm.
Co-Science

Assist in collecting scientific data that will be used by government agencies to help predict future crab harvest numbers and forecasting harmful algal blooms (HABs). Light Trap Surveys are Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday 9:30-11:30am starting in April. Phytoplankton Surveys are Thursdays 12-2pm year-round.
K-12 Field Trips

Help lead school groups through learning station or beach investigation. These are scheduled throughout the school year Tuesday-Friday mornings.
Community Outreach

Table at public events educating guests about the MaST Center and the marine environment. Volunteer shifts are usually on the weekends at farmer's markets, libraries, and city events.
Marine Mammal Stranding Team
Provide first response to marine mammals on our shores and further the knowledge of local community members by providing on-site education.
