Least Terns and Black Skimmers are nesting and chicks are hatching on Mississippi coastal beaches! Beach-nesting bird areas have been established on beaches in Harrison and Hancock counties.
Volunteer Bird Stewards are needed on weekends (June-August 2016 and during the 4th of July weekend. Volunteer stewardship training is being offered and is free to the public. Sign up today to protect beach-nesting birds! Please select a training date from the list below!
As a bird steward you will:
Protect Least Terns and Black Skimmers by ensuring beach-goers do not enter vulnerable beach-nesting bird areas. Volunteers are needed during the weekends but especially during the 4th of July weekend (July 1-5, 2016) due to heavy beach use!
Help educate beach-goers about beach-nesting birds that rely on Mississippi coastal beaches to raise their young.
Participate in volunteer training and orientation. Select from the dates and locations below.
At Training, pick up an Audubon Volunteer T-shirt and select a beach-nesting bird site in Biloxi, Gulfport, Long Beach, Pass Christian, or Waveland. (Complete list available at training)
