Administrative - Assistant Coordinator for the Volunteer Program

PURPOSE To promote effective recruitment, utilization, and retention of volunteers that aids the agency in achieving its mission. QUALIFICATIONS Some computer skills are a must particularly data entry and internet navigation. Applicant must also possess good verbal and written communication skills. Organization skills would be helpful in this position as well as creativity and vision. A college degree might be helpful but is not required. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Stay abreast of and facilitate volunteer recruitment opportunities such as career fairs and other advertising venues • Assist with the development and publication of volunteer positions to facilitate the agency mission • Aid in the customization and management of the volunteer database • Help with the screening of potential volunteers • Evaluate the effectiveness of volunteer training and supervision to development improvement strategies • Assist in the implementation of volunteer and staff recognition strategies • Research funding opportunities for the continuation of the volunteer program ORIENTATION/TRAINING Orientation will be conducted by the Volunteer Coordinator and take approximately 1.5 hours. Training will also be conducted by the Volunteer Coordinator and include topics such as recruitment basics, operation of the database, screening volunteers, evaluation basics, recognition and motivation theory, grant writing, and fundraising. TIME AND PLACE This position will mostly be performed during office hours (8:00am to 5:00pm Monday through Friday) at the main TVC office (1315 8th Avenue South, Nashville, TN 37153). The exact hours of service are at the volunteer’s discretion. Some activities may also take place after hours or on weekends from a remote location if beneficial to the volunteer. COMMITMENT Estimated hours of service are 8 to 16 hours per week with a minimum commitment of 3 months. (This position can be broken up into shorter term projects for those who want to provide a one time service but do not want to volunteer on an ongoing, longer term basis. This position is also ideal for groups who can serve as a volunteer coordination team and share the responsibilities listed above.) SUPERVISION/EVALUATION Supervision will be provided by the Volunteer Coordinator, Betsy Pufahl who possesses an MSSW for those who require formal supervision for a university internship. For others, supervision will be informal and ongoing. Performance evaluations are conducted semi-annually.
