Statewide Family Support - Middle TN Program Assistant

PURPOSE: To educate and empower parents and/or caregivers to successfully "navigate" the many different agencies and systems for their families. Outreach provides information, resources, and referrals for parents and professionals, advocacy for children’s and parents’ rights, parent support groups, training, education, and community awareness. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: * Participate in Outreach activities including individual advocacy with families, i.e. phone contact as well as team meetings in the community * Attend local and state council and community meetings related to children’s mental health * Assist with information health fairs, Parent to Parent trainings, conferences and events QUALIFICATIONS: Extensive experience in family advocacy or student from a college/university program that has developed a student internship contract with TVC. TIME AND PLACE: Office located in Nashville. Office hours are Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Specific schedules will vary depending on university requirements. COMMITMENT: At least 6 months. For students - based on requirements of the university. TRAINING REQUIREMENTS: Orientation will be conducted by the Volunteer Coordinator and will take approximately 1.5 hours. Program training will be ongoing. However, initial on the job training will be conducted by the Program Coordinator and take place during the first several days of involvement with the agency. SUPERVISON/EVALUATION: Monica Causey, Statewide Family Support Network Coordinator BENEFITS: Specialized training, field experience with a non-profit, community service hours, and completion of internship requirements.
